Save the Date

Yo bailé con mi mamá “Just The Way You Are” de Billy Joel y Javi bailó “Honrar la Vida” de Mercedes Sosa.

When I met Javi, I knew that he was the person who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with...

After 6 months of living together, one day, in the traffic of Mexico City, I thought that our relationship was ending because he told me that he had to go to Paris... But, it was the opposite: He proposed for me to go with him! "At work, everybody says that the paperwork is easier if we're already married."

I felt like in a Disney movie and I answered that, even though I loved him, I didn’t want to marry him as part of a procedure. I wanted an unforgettable wedding.

Two years went by and I kept thinking about our wedding ... When would it be? How would it be?

On January 5, 2018, my birthday, we were in Mexico City and Javi invited me to dinner. In the middle of the evening, the song "Hacer un Puente" by La Franela started (a song that Javi had dedicated to me in Argentina when he asked me to be his boyfriend).

In that moment I knew something was happening, it was too much of a coincidence to listen that song, in that moment, and in that place. Javi, nervous, told me: "Look what's outside the window ..."

In that moment, the adventure began.

Since day one, we agreed that we wanted a Mexican wedding because we know that they are the best! But it would have to be a weekend wedding, because both of us have lived in many places and we have friends and family scattered everywhere... and what better time to gather them all than at our wedding?

They were months of planning. Being away from Mexico complicates the decision making process in terms of place, menu, invitations, decoration, practically everything, but Aline Brun was wonderful and helped us a lot.

The brief was: an Instagrammable wedding, Boho Chic style, full of ornaments, where all the guests would feel comfortable no matter where they came from.

And the result was exactly what we wanted.

The venue

Since we met Javi told me that if we ever got married, he would like to do it Bajo la Montaña, an incredible place in the foothills of Tepozteco.

In April 2018, I went with my mother to see the venue. Since we entered, I fell in love with the view, the garden and the good vibes. It was the perfect place for our wedding and that same day we set the date: March 9, 2019.

Save the Date

When we returned to Paris, we decided that we had to send the save the dates one year in advance so that all the people who came from outside could organize the trip. In Instagram, we found an artist from Jordan who makes illustrations "one line" who helped us with an animation, which is where our logo came from.

Invitations

Once we defined that our faces would be the logo, I designed the invitations.

Friday, March 8, 2019 – Undertaking a journey

The first day was just as we had imagined it. We made a callejoneada with Chinelos, musical band, and "burrito mezcalero" in the streets of Tepoztlán. When we saw how many people gathered, we could not believe it, it was an incredible feeling to be able to turn around and see someone we love. Javi says it was like real life Facebook... and I think that it was the best way to describe it.

Then, we arrived at "El Ciruelo” restaurant. There, with a giant chopped paper and the Tepozteco in the background, we got married in the civil ceremony, it was very emotional. There were words, laughs, tears, cries and applauses from all the guests.

The original plan for Friday was a quiet night without a lot of partying, but there was so much happiness and excitement in the atmosphere that people ended up dancing and singing until midnight.

Since it was Women’s Day, we invited an all-female Mariachi band to close the night with typical Mexican romantic songs.

Saturday, March 9, 2019 - New Beginning

We woke up very early and full of excitement, we could not believe that the big day had finally arrived! One of our favorite moments was when we were getting ready... Javi gave me a last surprise: cufflinks with our logo, a detail inside another detail.

When we were almost ready, we were surprised by our best friends and closest family members. Everybody was already dressed: the women were dressed in white and the men wore the outfit we had created for them. Happiness and love were in the air.

We went downstairs, and we saw that everything was ready for the ceremony… just as we had imagined it: the circle and the huppah in the center, every detail, the flowers, the colors, the chopped paper, our excitement kept on growing, everything was like we had dreamed.

Finally, it was time to enter, first the children, then the godfathers and godmothers divided into couples of all kinds, and last but not least, our mothers and us.

Dagyi, our spiritual guide was waiting for us in the center of the circle. The ceremony began, our fathers, mothers, siblings, best friends, cousins, nephews, and nieces participated. There was laughter and tears, especially when we exchanged our vows, which neither of us had read in the presence of the other.

At the end of the ceremony, people went to the cocktail, where the details continued: refreshing drinks by Calavera Mexology, the book for snapshots and for guests to sign in, a photo booth, dream catchers as party favors for all the guests, and a fun game meant for people to find their assigned seat.

The tables were decorated with wood, flowers, fruits, and other ornaments. While people looked for their assigned seats, the Red Shoes trio was playing live.

Then, the DJ put the song "This is the Beginning" at full volume and we both walked by the tables and greeted our guests.

The food was delicious, and people looked happy, it was very fun to see the faces of all the guests from our table. At the end of the meal, we made the toast.

It was time to open the dance floor! Alo??? danced with his mom "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel, and Javi danced "Honrar la Vida" by Mercedes Sosa.

Then the tango "Vida Mía" by Adriana Varela began to play. At first, we were so nervous that we looked like robots, but with the cries and applauses of people, our dancing got better and better. Or so we thought ;)

After the tango the party was supposed to start, but Aline told us that we had to return to our places because there was another surprise! And it was definitely the best of all, because Javi's grandmother began to dance, alone, in the center of the dance floor. Then many more people joined her, it was a flash mob that Javi's sister had organized! They all knew the choreography, people from all over the world were dancing at the same pace and in the same style just for us, it was an unforgettable moment.

The party was incredible, we had all kinds of props organized with Aline, Dani and his team, things came out little by little in different "happenings". Our favorite moment was when the lights of the tent were turned off and the pride happening started with flags, feathers, colors. Then the neon lights in the shape of our logo lit up the dance floor all night long until the last minute. It was the best day of our lives, no doubt.

Sunday, March 10, 2019 - We are Together

On Sunday, we woke up and it seemed as if everything had been a dream. It was a very strange feeling; everything went by so fast and we enjoyed every second of it, we could not believe that it was over.

Luckily, we had planned brunch for the guests in a house in Tepoztlán. It was very fun, more colorful, and we put as many unicorns in the pool as possible.

There was Argentinian barbecue, micheladas, music and above all, a lot of love and laughter from all the people who accompanied us from all over the world in these three unforgettable days.
